Due to our expertise in the field of process engineering pilot plants, specifically for solid-liquid separation, konzept GmbH – Engineering Services has secured a new significant order. For a project in Morocco, konzept GmbH – Engineering Services is planning and supplying a complete process plant consisting of reactors, mixing tanks, pumps, thickeners, wet gas scrubber, flocculant dosing station, and customized enclosed pilot membrane filter presses. A key factor in awarding this contract to konzept GmbH – Engineering Services was a successful reference plant operating in a comparable application in Jordan for several years.
Morocco possesses the world’s largest phosphate rock reserves, which play a central role in the Moroccan economy due to global export of phosphate fertilizer. Phosphoric acid is the most important raw material for phosphate fertilizer production. It is produced by reacting phosphate rock with sulfuric acid. Important fertilizers (such as MAP, DAP, and TSP) are derived from this acid. These products provide essential phosphor, a vital nutrient for plant energy, promoting photosynthesis, root growth, and overall crop yield, thus contributing to global food security. However, phosphate fertilizers also contain cadmium and uranium, which pose long-term risks to the environment and human health, because they can enter the food chain via plants.
Recent reports suggest that Moroccan phosphate deposits through this contains more than three times as much uranium as the world’s largest uranium ore reserves in Australia.
This project aims to make uranium extraction from phosphoric acid during phosphate fertilizer production a significant source of U₃O₈- production (yellowcake).
This will not only benefit Morocco’s energy production but also put the country on the path to becoming a major player in the global uranium market. At the same time, this also brings huge environmental benefits worldwide by reducing environmental pollution on agricultural soils and reducing potential health risks associated with the application of phosphate fertilizers.
konzept GmbH – Engineering Services looks forward starting project management and expects commissioning at the beginning of Q3/2026.
